Updates on the way

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Just popping in to say I haven’t forgotten! Those promised updates will be coming soon! I’ve had a very busy holiday that is finally slowing down. So look for some new stuff in the coming week.

Email problems

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Just a heads up that I’m having some email issues. If you sent me something and I did not respond, or if I sent you something and you never got it I apologize. Hopefully I’ll have this fixed ASAP.

UPDATE: OK, I’ve fixed the problem on my end. Thanks to a friend I’ve discovered that over-zealous spam filters may be the culprit for people not getting messages from me — so check your spam folders before you assume I’m ignoring you!

Delayed schedule

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Sorry for the delayed updates! I should have everything updated and back on schedule here Wednesday.

Photos of SEC events on blogs allowed?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Looks like blog photos of SEC events might just be OK. In an interview with The Buzz Manager Blog SEC Associate Commissioner of Media Relations Charles Bloom said the following:

• Q: Can you highlight the main components of the policy as it impacts social media? “The intent of the revised policy is not to inhibit social media inside our stadiums with the exception of trying to protect our video rights as they pertain to our television and media partners. Someone in the stadium can enter Twitter feeds or Facebook entries and photographs, but the game footage video is something we will try to protect.”

• Q: This isn’t just about football and basketball, it’s all SEC events and all sports. Is that correct? “All SEC events and all sports.”

• Q: If the intent is fans can’t commercialize from pictures they take in the stadium or tweets or the video they take around the stadium, does that affect a blogger who has advertising on their sites? “The intent is for someone not to create revenue from an entry with the sole purpose of duplicating what’s being done by the conference. If that passes the test, I don’t feel there will be any repercussions.”

UPDATE: More from Bloom in the New York Times:

“We want to protect our rights to have video between the conference and its members, and ban the commercial sale of photo images. Fans can post photos on their site or Facebook page, but they can’t be for sale.”

Site changes, new schedule page

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

ticketYou’ve probably noticed a few changes around the site in the past few days. Hopefully everything will be acceptable — or at the very least, not too objectionable!

One thing in particular I’d like to point out is the updated schedule page. Instead of a dry list of matches to be played, it’s now more informative and interactive. (It’s informactive! Or maybe intermational? Ok, maybe not!) Besides the opponent, date, and time, you can now see the venue, series record, and the facts of the last meeting. You can also sort the schedule several different ways. For example, you can choose to see just the home matches or the conference matches. It’s all presented in a (hopefully!) easy to follow graphic style with all the information on each match centered around a game “ticket”.

I’ve checked this (and the many other changes recently made to the site) in several browsers, and I’ll be tweaking things in the days to come. But please feel free to let me know if something isn’t working.

Uptime!

Monday, July 20th, 2009

I’m back! Much longer than I expected to be gone, but back now! And I’m in some serious internet withdrawal! They fixed the original problem with my computer but created a new one so it was back in the shop two additional times before I got it back for good this weekend. Wow! Less than 40 days until the season starts!? Give me some time to catch up on things because I have no idea what’s been going on! It looks like Tennessee has finally announced some of the new recruits we’ve mentioned here so be sure to check that out (along with me!) for all the details on the newest Lady Vols.

Downtime

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Sorry for the downtime. My computer has been out of commission for about a week. I’ve given up on what I can do for it and sent it to the shop for repairs. Hopefully I’ll be back online soon!

Home at last

Monday, May 25th, 2009

Sorry for the looooooong delay. After returning from the beach tournament my wife and I bought a new house. So we’ve been packing and moving and cleaning during most of our free time the past few weeks. We finally moved in to the new place last weekend, and this weekend we finally got our internet service connected. I’ve got a few items I’ll catch up on here tonight. But hopefully from here on out I’ll be officially settled in and posting on a more timely schedule!

Update schedule

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

It’s the last day of 2008, which was a great year for Lady Vols Volleyball! I hope everyone had a great Christmas! Just a quick heads up on updates now that the holidays are almost over. I’m off to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl (Go Pirates!), but when I get back this weekend I should have a final look at how the Lady Vols stand nationally and in the conference done and ready to be posted. Then in the next week I hope to have a season recap written up. After that things will go quiet except for any occasional news that may come up. Until then, Happy New Year!

Stat updates

Friday, November 21st, 2008

I’m re-working the way I post stats on the Roster page to make them more… informational? Is that a real word? Anyway, you can check out Nikki Fowler’s career stats to see what I’m talking about. I’m using her as the guinea pig for testing since she has a good amount of stats in every category and she only has two seasons worth of data to sift through. If you have any other ideas or suggestions for stats I should add feel free to let me know.

Downtime ending… soon!

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Apologies for my continued absence! I had hoped to be free of the bulk of work that my other website takes by now. But I’m still swamped! I hope to catch up with everything, including this site, during the weekend.

Election downtime

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Just a heads up that I won’t be posting the weekly recap or upcoming notes until probably Thursday. I run another website about presidential elections. That site takes all my free time during the run up to election day. By the time it’s all done though I’ll be so burned out on politics that I’ll be longing to spend time back here! See you in a few days!

Back to work

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

After three days of cold medicine induced grogginess, I’m finally feeling pretty good — except for my voice which is only half there! So it’s time to get caught up. I’m going to pass on the weekend recap, update the stats page, and get to work on the notes for this weekend. Hopefully all should be done by tomorrow.

Staying home

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

Well I am obviously not on my way to Starkville right now as planned! I woke up this morning with a pretty bad cold. I am going to take some Nyquil and crash so there may not be any updates after todays match. I think the MSU website will have live score and stats.

TennesseeVolleyball.net lives!

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

After giving it some thought I have decided to continue the site. In the middle of last week I got curious about how close Chloe Goldman was getting to making the Tennessee top ten career digs list so I went ahead and compiled the stats that I had skipped out on doing earlier. It made me realize I was probably going to do that kind of thing with or without the blog so I might as well share it on a website so it makes me seem like a little bit less of a volleyball geek for doing it for no reason! Even with the ban on photos I still enjoy what I’m doing and I still love Tennessee volleyball. And that is all that matters. Thanks for all the support this past week!

(BTW – In a few emails and forum posts some people mentioned the small audience of the website — a reference to the “22 hits a day” quote I made below. I should mention that’s the daily average for the entire year, which includes the months of January-July when the site gets hardly any hits at all as it is not updated often. During the season the average hovers between 50-100 a day. I don’t care how few people visit, but in the interests of full disclosure I thought I should mention that. I don’t want anyone to think I was low-balling the hit count to get sympathy!)
